The Best Minute: Spending time, character, and following advice

2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS

I. Henry David Thoreau on spending your time on things that matter:

"It's not enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is, what are we busy about?"

———————————

II. Adam Grant on the true test of character:

“We think power corrupts, but more often power reveals. As people gain influence, they feel free to show their true colors.

The true test of character: how you treat people who lack power.”

2 IDEAS FROM ME

I. It is often said we overestimate what we can accomplish in the short term and underestimate what we can accomplish in the long term. So instead of setting a short-term goal, set a long-term goal (one year +) first, and then break that down into monthly goals. Then you’ll be able to see how realistic the goal is and what it will actually take to accomplish it.

———————————

II. It would be one thing to go back in time and give your younger self some advice. It would be a whole different thing if your younger self would then go and live it out. It’s easy to hear advice, it’s hard to actually do it.

What advice do you think your future self would give you right now? Are you actually willing to follow it?

1 INTERESTING FACT

The ‘?!’ punctuation mark has a term.

It is called an interrobang and was invented during the 1960s. This combination of punctuation made it easy for advertisements to express emotional questions. The interrobang originally looked like both marks were overlapped (‽).

What activities give me the most energy? What if I tried doing that instead of the initial impulse to lay around after a long day?
