The Best Minute: On setting standards, God’s timing, and ego getting in your way

2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS

I. Chip heath on decision making and success:

“Success emerges from the quality of the decisions we make and the quantity of luck we receive. We can’t control luck. But we can control the way we make choices.”

II. Jocko Willink on setting standards:

“When setting expectations, no matter what has been said or written, if substandard performance is accepted and no one is held accountable - if there are no consequences - that poor performance becomes the new standard.”

2 IDEAS FROM ME

I. When we say God moves slowly, we must ask “according to whose perspective?” Why should we assume our timing is the timeframe by which we should judge how quickly God moves? God doesn’t move slowly, we just need a better perspective.

II. Sometimes we avoid taking risks not because we lack courage or wisdom, but because we have an ego problem. We are more afraid of people knowing we don’t have it all figured out and people seeing us fail than failing itself. Don’t let your ego be the reason you remain stuck.

1 INTERESTING FACT
