The Best Minute: Thinking small, success, and how to be a genius

1 IDEA FROM ME

Be great in small ways. We spend some time thinking “big” that we miss how important it is to think “small.”

  • Writing for 10 minutes doesn’t seem important when you see another New York Times bestseller.

  • Practicing for 10 minutes doesn’t seem like much of a big deal when you hear another great song.

  • Playing with your son for 10 minutes doesn’t seem that impactful when you think of all you have to do.

But owning the next 10 minutes is what leads to a great book, an improved skill, or a closer relationship.

We can be so busy wishing to make a bigger impact that we fail to make the most of the time we have right now. Small consistencies over time are what make the biggest differences in the end.

2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS

I. Basketball great Micheal Jordan on how to be successful:

"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."

II. Andy Benoit on geniuses:

“Most geniuses—especially those who lead others—prosper not by deconstructing intricate complexities but by exploiting unrecognized simplicities.”

I INTERESTING FACT

Your heart is not on the left.

Well, most of the heart is not normally on the left. Most of the heart is in the center of your chest. The apex, or tip, of the heart sits just beneath the left breast area. That’s where you’d feel the maximum pulse.
