💡 1 IDEA FROM ME

Goals don’t deliver new results, new lifestyles do. And a lifestyle isn’t merely an end result but an ongoing process. Therefore, focus your energy on building better habits, not chasing better results.

Goals are great; you can’t achieve something if you’re not aiming for it. But unless you have a lifestyle conducive to your goal, your goal will never be attainable.

My advice: Set a goal but focus on necessary habit(s). Here is what I want to do (goal), and here is how I am going to do it (habit/lifestyle). If you have the right process, you’ll achieve your goal. After all, goals are typically the result of a different type of desired life. For example:

  • People want to lose weight to be and feel healthier - not because there is something inherently magical about losing 30 pounds

  • People want to run a half marathon because they want to be in shape - not because something inherently magical happens at the 13.1 mile mark

  • Couples want to schedule 2 date nights a month because they want a better marriage - not because St. Valentine gives a reward to those who do

Goals can be a helpful way to measure a new lifestyle. This means that as long as you are developing the appropriate habit, it is ok if it takes you longer to hit your goal than you originally planned.

Chase better habits. Results will follow.

💬 2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS

I. Matt Griswold offers an approach to life:

“Think in decades and act in days.”

———————————

II. Former Olympic gold medalist Wilma Rudolph on how to lose:

“Winning is great, sure, but if you are really going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose. Nobody goes undefeated all the time. If you can pick up after a crushing defeat, and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday.”

📖 1 BRIEF BOOK REVIEW

The Richest Man In Babylon by George S. Clason

A shorter book using fictional stories from the ancient kingdom of Babylon. The principles in this book are good, but not really new for me, so I didn’t find the book as helpful.

Also, the old English some of the characters in the stories use makes it less enjoyable to read. So for me personally, this book was fine but not great.

6.5/10

💯 1 THING I RECOMMEND

Malouf Memory Foam Bed Pillow - Low Loft

I’ve been using this brand and thickness-sized pillow for years. Anytime I travel by car, I take my pillow with me. I can’t stand thin and/or squishy pillows. I also don’t want a pillow that is too thick (why I prefer the low-loft size). If you want a firm yet soft pillow like I do, you’ll likely enjoy this. If you need a better pillow, don’t let the price scare you considering you’ll use it every single night.

🤔 1 QUESTION TO LEAVE YOU WITH

Instead of asking yourself, “What should I do first?”

Try asking, “What should I neglect first?”

Sometimes you just need to make the space to succeed.
