The Best Minute: 1 degree better, taking action, and looking up

1 IDEA FROM ME

For every degree a plane gets off course, it will miss its targeted landing spot by 92 feet for every mile it flies. If you stayed just one degree off course from JFK in New York to LAX in California, you would wind up 40 miles off in the Pacific Ocean. One degree off course for an extended amount of time can lead your life way off course. Most of the time, it’s not one big event that shapes our lives negatively. It’s so often that 1 degree that got off course 5 years ago that never got examined.

If there is an area of your life you are looking to improve upon, what if you focused on getting one “degree” better rather than trying to make some large and unsustainable change?

2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS

I. James Clear on the need to take action:

“You can graduate with the finest degrees. You can read the most useful books. You can enjoy the loving support of family and friends. But your degrees can't take action for you. Your books can't make the decision for you. Your family can't live your life for you. There is no substitute for courage. At some point, you have to make the choice.”

II. Erik Naggum on looking up instead of looking down:

“The secret to feeling great about yourself is not to be found in searching for people who are less than you and then show yourself superior to them, but in searching for people who are more than you and then show yourself worthy of their company.”

1 INTERESTING FACT

Play-Doh started out as a wallpaper cleaner before the head of the struggling company realized the non-toxic material made a good modeling clay for children and rebranded it. After World War II, families often converted coal-based home furnaces to oil and gas, thus reducing the soot residue issues that many homeowners previously battled and thus the need for wallpaper cleaner. This gave birth to Play-Doh as we know it today.
