The Best Minute: Waking up, remaining an amateur, and doing what is important

1 PERSONAL GROWTH SOLUTION FROM ME

If you have trouble getting out of bed in the morning, try using a smart bulb.

With a smart bulb, you can set it to turn on at any given time, so that you are not waking up to a dark room. For me, I set mine on my dresser and have it turn on to a very dim setting 10 minutes before my alarm goes off. Once it is on, it slowly gets brighter and brighter. This way, when my alarm goes off, my room isn’t dark.

This small tweak has been one of the best things I have done to help me get out of bed in the morning.

2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS

I. Mary Sarton on remaining an amateur:

“It is good for a professional to be reminded that his professionalism is only a husk, that the real person must remain an amateur, a lover of the work.”

II. Elon Musk on doing what is important:

"When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor."

1 INTERESTING FACT

The # symbol isn’t officially called hashtag or pound

Its technical name is octothorpe. The “octo” means “eight” and refers to its points, though reports disagree on where “thorpe” came from. Some claim it was named after Olympian Jim Thorpe, while others argue it was just a nonsense suffix.
